Last week

We took at trip with Maria last week along Queen Street. First, we went to Beaver cafe for some delicious hot chocolate and chatted about the film we're going to make with the other groups. Then, we met the Dewson penguins at Twist Gallery, and tried to start some dialog between the groups. Also at the gallery, we looked through the archival-modern meld photos!

Eventful week

We checked out the Maya exhibitions (no photography allowed)
before having free time at the play area.
We were amazing at helping and teaching those
who were less comfortable on the ice.

Fun time with Maylee

We're now two and a half months into the year! Maylee and I have a much greater understanding of what kinds of activities our group is most interested in. We thrive to always bring new ideas to the children, but at the same time exploring the same themes over an extended period of time. For example, we've been exploring textile / fabric art since the beginning of school, and we're now slowing moving onto paper / book art, which is in many ways very similar to textile /fabric art.

Last week, the children went to Oz gallery where they looked at negatives and made some short videos and then headed over to the Show and Tell Gallery where they got to see a huge tank made out of mesh!

They also acted out the movie "Return to Oz" at the Grove Park and continued making pillows and little creatures.

Art theme of the season: drawing, painting, and paper art

We visited Woolfitt to learn about the different mediums
and tools for painting and drawing
We discovered very soft brushes
Checking out different kinds surfaces for painting and drawing
We all enjoyed "chigirie" - japanese torn paper collage art

We made many drawings of chicken for this initiative
For every chicken drawn and sent in, 5 dollar will be donated to Veterinaries Without Borders.
Money raised will go towards purchasing chickens for villages in Loas!

It's getting cold

We visited a fabric shop.
It was very exciting to feel different textures.
All the different patterns inspired us to start new textile projects!
We experimented with dyeing with kool-aid.

Also this past week, more leather carving!

More on leather

We are good at helping each other.
We're also good at respecting each others' interests
and sharing play space during free time.
This week, we learned more ways to manipulate and use leather.
Some hole-punching action.
The finished product!
